Using domestic arts to live a simple, frugal life

The other day I was in Walmart and got a great deal on a couple yards of fleece. For whatever reason, they have just a few colors on sale for $2.84/yard. If you ever purchase fleece then you know that is an unbeatable deal. The colors were a little vivid for my taste but they were perfect for my daughter. I purchased one yard of purple and one yard of teal (I think those were my favorite colors when I was 9).

I knew right away one thing I wanted to make for Chloe – a fringe scarf. I’ve seen them on several blogs but most recently at Make and Takes.

Would you like to know how to make it? Layer three pieces of fleece. Sew a straight line down the middle. Cut fringe with scissors. Done. For the real tutorial head over to Make and Takes.

Why I do what I do ~ We’ve had a rough couple weeks battling the cold in our house. Chloe has been up in the night quite a bit. One night I was in her room and had just settled her back down when I asked, “Do you need anything else?” I thought she shook her head no so I kissed her cheek and started to leave the room. I was wrong. She sat up in bed and said, “Mama I said, ‘Yes I need anything else.’”
