Cloth-Napkins-B

I’ve mentioned before that one of the ways we spend less money in our home is by using cloth napkins at our meal times. It’s a switch that I’m thrilled we made because it freed up a little money in my grocery budget and also is less wasteful.

Beth over at Smart Family Tips has tons of tips on green living and has been gracious enough to host a post of mine today. Tying together saving money and green living, I’ve written a how-to for sewing cloth napkins. Even if you’ve never sewn before, do me a favor and check it out. You might be surprised that you could whip up a couple of these with things you already have in your house!

Why I do what I do ~ Chloe has never liked to wear flip-flops. I wear them almost exclusively in the summer but I can understand why she wouldn’t like the thing between her toes so I have never pushed them on her. Well, 2 days ago I noticed a little sore on Chloe’s foot so I suggested (thinking I’d be turned down) that Chloe and Aliyah (one of my nieces) switch shoes for the day. Aliyah has a pair of flip-flops that have elastic that goes around the back to keep them on. They both quickly agreed. I was impressed that Chloe wanted to wear them and Aliyah gladly accepted Chloe’s Crocs. I told Chloe that if she wore Aliyah’s flip-flops all day that I would buy a pair for her very own. She wore them all day … and the next day then said, “Mommy please buy me my own now.” You’ll remember of course that I live in a VERY rural area (read – no malls, outlets or stores that DON’T end in “-mart”). You see where this is going right? I’ve checked every store that I live near and NONE of them have ANY flip-flops left in Chloe’s size. After shopping and checking several stores David said to Chloe, “Are you ready to go home now?” She sighed and responded, “I just need some flip-flops Daddy.”
