Do you work outside your home? Are you a stay-at-home parent, a single parent, a single person on a tight budget? Whatever your position in life, one of the comfiest, home-making, time saving things you can use is a crock pot or slow cooker. When I worked outside my home I used it all the time, and now that I’m home I use it all the time. I don’t have a fancy one. The knob has only 3 selections; Off, High, Low.

Three reasons to use your crock pot.

  1. Time. Throwing a meal in the crock pot either before work or in anticipation of a busy evening saves SO much hassle at meal time, and in general is just quick and easy prep.
  2. Atmosphere. I like making my home a comfortable, welcoming place for my family, and there is nothing like the scent of beef stew in the crock pot on a crisp fall day. It causes me to anticipate our family meal time.
  3. Money Saving. The fantastic thing about using a crock pot is that you can use much less expensive cuts of meat because the slow-cooking tenderizes them so well. Your filler ingredients also tend to be more filling and less expensive too.

Try it for yourself. The next time you go grocery shopping buy a beef stew seasoning packet and purchase the ingredients listed on the back. You can purchase stew meat or just a really inexpensive steak, some onions, potatoes and carrots, throw it all in the crock pot with water and the seasoning packet, toss some biscuits in the oven at suppertime and you’ve made a tasty, feel-good meal for probably under $15.

Do you use your crock pot often? Why or why not?

Why I do what I do ~ because my daughter recently learned to identify a pentagon, a very proud mommy moment.
