Garden Update – Picking Soon

in Frugal Food

I’ve mentioned before that it has been a very rainy summer where I live in the northeast of the US. Only the past couple weeks have given us real summer weather. Thankfully, the only thing that really suffered in my garden were my beans (for the second year in a row). Only one plant survived. All the others were washed out or rotted in the ground. Now, having had a couple sunny weeks I’ve actually got some things growing. I’ll be picking in no time! Here’s a sample of what I’ll be picking soon.

Roma Tomatoes

Green Peppers

Zucchini

Cherry Tomatoes (from my Topsy-Turvy planter)

Cucumbers

Broccoli

I have some other things growing that are still a little behind: beans, summer squash, pumpkins (SO hoping this produces), and habanero peppers. I love gardening at this time of the year because I can see new progress every day and it’s so exciting to see what grows in 12 hours on a sunny day. Certainly makes the hard work worth it to me!

Why I do what I do ~ Today is my husband, David’s birthday. He is so much fun to be married to and an absolutely terrific person all around. He’s sort of new to Twitter. If you’re on there, do me a favor and follow him. I guarantee you’ll get a kick out of some of his tweets!

WOW! Impressive veggies! Great job!!!
This summer I’m growing my first ever produce… it’s only 2 humble tomato plants & one is not doing too well. But the little grape tomatoes are yummy and plentiful!
So, I – the new gardener- applaud your many successful veggie plants! :)

Your veggies look great! I had planned on growing more than just tomatoes this year but never got anything else planted.

How are you liking the Topsy-Turvy planter? I was thinking I might like to try one next year.

@netta – Thanks!!

@Amanda – I’m really liking the topsy-turvy planter, esp. for the cherry tomatoes. Those plants can get pretty heavy when they get full of tomatoes so not having to stake them is nice :)

Your Roma tomatoes look a bit different from ours in Cameron Highland, Malaysia. Never seen Zucchini before. So curious how is the taste like? Your veggies look great! Perhaps you may consider to sell your organic veggies online? ;)
