My Favorite Toddler Snack Mix

Do you ever get to the bottom of a box of snacks/crackers/cereal only to have your child become sick of it before it is completely gone? My daughter does it all the time. The usual response would be just to throw it out because there really isn’t that much left anyway, however, I sincerely dislike wasting food if I can avoid it. So I make a snack mix. I take whatever it is I would’ve thrown away and mix it with some other goodies that she’s still interested in and it becomes a whole new treat. Not only is this less wasteful, it also makes her snacks last a tiny bit longer, saving me a little money here and there. Here are some of my stand-by ingredients:

                • Cheerios®
                • Kix®
                •Chex®
                •Goldfish®
                •Raisins
                •Dried Cranberries
                •Teddy Grahams®
                •Popcorn
                •Animal Crackers

Depending on the amount of ingredients I have I mix it in a gallon bag or resealable container and I’ve invented a new snack that will last a few extra days. This is one of my favorite snacks to pack for car rides or day trips. It’s not boring and it isn’t too messy.

P.S. You can make adult versions too … think nuts, dried fruit, granola, the options are limitless.

Why I do what I do ~ A few days ago I had kids songs playing for my daughter and 2 nieces. They were dancing around the living room and singing a song that goes “Who built the ark? Noah! Noah! …” I asked them to sing it really loud and then suddenly realized what they were singing … “Who built the ark? Noone! Noone!”
