Garden Update – Sprouts And Blossoms

The weather hasn’t been the most favorable for gardens so far this year. It’s been a very rainy couple of weeks. That’s tough when you’ve got seeds that you’re hoping will sprout and holding your breath that they won’t wash away. I can always water my garden if it’s dry but I can’t make the sun come out. My seeds held on though. Today was bright and sunshiny and my garden is still looking great.

My beans began sprouting yesterday, which I love. There’s something terrific and miraculous about a seed that sprouts. It’s so interesting that the transformation of the seed is hidden. It’s so like us. We change on the inside first and then the fruit of that change becomes visible. Here are my beans – reaching out of the soil.

I told you in my last garden post that I was going to try the Topsy-Turvy tomato planter. Well, it was not to be. They were sold out for weeks around here and I waited too long to order one. I ended up just re-potting my cherry tomato plant, which seems to be doing very well. I have a little tomato that’s beginning to grow and flowers all over it.

I don’t have much in the way of flowers, just one small flower bed that isn’t all that inspirational-looking. I really like flowers though so I give it a shot. I have these happy blossoms making me smile right now …

Gardening is something I thoroughly enjoy but I’m not especially great at it. I told David the other day that one of the benefits of getting older is that you’re better at things. The more you do them the better you get. I can’t wait to see how well 65-year-old Nicki gardens (wrinkle-free and with my natural hair color I hope!). I’m going to rock at it by then. Until I’m 65 though, I practice.

Do you have something in your life that you love to do but aren’t really good at? It’s almost like it takes the pressure off succeeding. I’ll do the best I can and see what comes of it.

Why I do what I do ~ Today I took Chloe to her preschool screening. Ya know … the thing where they ask your kid 75 questions and then tell you if they are behind in anything. Here’s a sample of how it went. The woman asks Chloe, “What did you have for breakfast this morning?” Chloe’s response, “Hot dogs and chips.” The woman seemed a little surprised and my eyes nearly bugged out of my head as I defended, “No she did not!” I can see it now … she’s going to be the kid that tells her teacher that mommy feeds her marshmallows for supper every night.

I love Chloe! she’s great! I can see her saying that with a straight face. I can’t wait to see a 65 year old Nicki sewing, your already great at that. By then, you’ll have a TV show or something! I hope to be a great quilter…still working on that, and 65 is gaining on me…

…and when I say LOVE IT…I don’t encourage lying (I’m sure she was probably thinking what she would have liked to have for breakfast…lol)…it’s just too cute :)
