Starting My Garden

All over the world, many of you have not only started your garden but you’re already beginning to get fruit from it. No so in the northeast of the USA. Traditionally, the weekend we are able to plant is Memorial Day weekend. We usually can avoid frost at that point. I’m running a little late, but not too late. However, our growing season is relatively short here (in comparison to warmer climates) so I needed to get moving.

I’ve gotten it all pretty much planted. I’ve spent hours out there this week. Here’s a photo journey of my progress.

Here are some veggies I bought (no … I didn’t start from seed) and my package of beans to be planted.

Every year my garden spot grows over before I have a chance to get it ready. Which means …

I have to turn the whole thing over again and then dig out all the grass chunks before it can be tilled.

Once my loving husband tilled it for me I got right to planting. I have roma tomatoes, green peppers, broccoli, beans, cucumbers and (not planted yet) summer squash and zucchini. I’m getting the last two from my mom because she had too many.

Also … tease me if you want to but I’m going to try the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter for my cherry tomatoes this year. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Our yard is small so we don’t have space for a large garden but this one is a great size for us. Do you have a garden? If so, how does it compare in size to mine? If you’re a blogger and you’ve written a post about your garden this year then I’d love for you to sign the Mr. Linky below! It will be like a blog garden tour :) If you don’t have a blog then be sure to share in the comments!

Why I do what I do ~ Today my niece told my mom that we’re going to play outside, but first Auntie Nicki needed to give them “sunscream.”Have you liked Domestic Cents on Facebook yet?

I so gave up gardening this year. The past two summers have not gone as well as I had liked…then again I birthed my youngest two children in the past 3 years, so I guess I can’t complain as to why..lol.

Your garden looks AWESOME!

Your garden looks great. I love to see other people’s gardens. We got into it this year for the first time. I’m learning as I go, but it’s been fun.

Wow it looks so good! I am jealous of the space you have…I am currently trying to plant a small veggie garden on my balcony. I can’t wait to see the progress of your garden!

I aspire to starting a container garden since I have zero lawn – will have to wait until spring comes here in Australia! In the meantime, have you heard of Gardening Without Work by Ruth Stout? Her method of covering everything with a thick layer of hay might save you from having to turn over your soil to start fresh every year.
