Yesterday my daughter woke up from her nap in a foul mood. She’s been sick with a cold for almost a week and that can make anyone grouchy, so I tried to give her some grace. I cuddled her and tickled her, teased her and sang funny songs, but she was still unhappy and, let’s just be honest, she was super whiny. It was nearing supper time (which is not a planned meal on Sunday in our home) so I asked if she’d like to come cook with me. Warily, she told me yes. I sat her on the counter, gave her a spoon and pulled out my cookbook. She helped me mix up a batch of Cinnamon Pancakes. Then, to top it off, I made her a Mickey Mouse pancake (after which she requested a Donald and a Goofy) and used raisins to detail his eyes, nose, mouth and ears. She loved it. Not only did my picky eater consume her entire meal, but she was in a darling mood for the rest of the night.
Sometimes food makes the difference. I’m not sure what it is that gets through to people, but it works. You can’t get much cheaper than pancakes, but they warmed my little Chloe’s heart yesterday.
For some yummy holiday food ideas sure to warm the hearts of people you love, head over to Vintage Mommy and check out the Food segment of Holidays By Hand.
I know I’ll be trying Rachel’s Chocolate Salted Caramel …. yumm!
Also check out the Toffee Popcorn from Backporch Reflections. What a tasty gift!
Why I do what I do ~ for every time I hear Chloe pronounce the word ‘macaroni’ as ‘macamornin.’ It warms my heart every time.

So sweet….and I bet in addition to the pancakes, she probably loved spending some out-of-the-ordinary-fun-time with Mommy. Sometimes you have to try every little trick that you have to get them out of those funky moods!
