Kid-Friendly Paper Crafts

This post is the second part of the Holidays By Hand Series. This week’s Paper Crafts Posts will be hosted by Rachel at Small Notebook on Tuesday.

My daughter is 2-1/2, so this will be the first Christmas that she’ll really be able to anticipate. She might actually get the idea of Santa Claus. I’m really excited about doing a lot of Christmas projects with her this year. She really likes doing crafts, but craft supplies can get expensive, so we make a lot of things out of what we already have lying around the house. One supply we use ALL the time is paper. We use mainly computer paper, construction paper and scrapbook paper. We always have it and it’s readily available. Needless to say, we make a lot of paper crafts.

I’d like to share 3 kid-friendly holiday paper crafts with you. I haven’t done these with Chloe yet, but I wanted to get the ideas out there for all of you with little ones running around.

The first one is her photo ornament. We’re actually going to make these to give to family members as gifts at Thanksgiving so they’ll have them to display on their tree this year. I just used some scrapbooking paper, some glitter and some ribbon to make this. Easy and cute.

The second is our watercolor Christmas tree. Chloe loves to paint with watercolors, which I like because they are slightly less messy than ordinary paints. What I’m going to do is cover every color except for green and have her paint a tree. I’ll likely cut a tree shape out of the paper after she’s done painting it. Then I’m going to have her glue pom-poms onto her tree as ornaments. I happened to have these leftover from another project, but you could also use buttons or yarn.

The last thing we’re going to make is the classic paper chain. I think we’ll make a few; one tiny one for her miniature tree and maybe another one to decorate with for fun.

There are SO many holiday themed, inexpensive paper crafts to do with kids. Some other ideas: santa beard, reindeer antlers, paper wreaths, ornaments … the list only stops with your imagination. I already have all of the supplies for my crafts in my home so there will be no additional cost to me. What can you come up with using only items in your home? Grab a piece of paper and go hunting for stuff to add to it. What little scraps do you have laying around?

The feeling in our home is a little different every holiday. I enjoy customizing our activities and decorating to our stage in life. Previously our decorating has been tasteful and low-key, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot more kid-friendly this year!

Why I do what I do ~ because I love how happy my daughter is now.
