The 10-Day Give

I wanted to do a quick post letting you know about The 10-Day Give hosted over at ChristianPF. I’ve added the button in my sidebar, which you can click to see how to join. It doesn’t cost anything and Bob isn’t trying to raise money – he’s opening our eyes to the power of giving.

You might wonder why I’d dedicate a post to something hosted on someone else’s blog. There are several reasons but the biggest one is that I believe in giving. I don’t think there can ever be a time when we have nothing to give. We always have something. When we purposefully put others ahead of ourselves it does something wonderful to the person you’ve chosen to honor and also to yourself. It’s the way life was meant to be.

The basic idea of the 10-Day Give is to give something to someone every day for 10 days. It could be 10 different people, 10 different things, whatever you choose that would make a difference to someone else. You could give your money, your time, your talent, your energy – anything, as long as it requires you giving for someone else’s benefit. Anyone can participate and that’s what I love. If you’re strapped for cash you can still be a part of this. It begins October 1. I’m in – are you?

Why I do what I do ~ Be still my mommy heart. My independent daughter has a new thing she loves – laying on my lap while I play with her hair or tickle her back. I think I love it more than she does. I’m soaking it right up.

I think that many people would be suprised by how much they get back when they generously give. Just the other day we were trying to pawn vegetables off on our neighbors. We had far too many, since my father-in-law is an organic farmer, and they would have just ended up rotten in our refrigerator. The neighbor’s were thrilled with the gesture and came over five minutes later bearing the best fresh baked french bread I have ever had.

You will not always get something back when you give, and that is not the purpose, but you may receive a few surprises here and there!

This will be our first time to participate in the 10 Day Give! We are super excited!! It reminds my wife and I of being back in college participating in Jar Wars or in the Sacrificial Giving Project at the Baptist Student Ministry. The 10 Day Give is such a great opportunity to serve God, to come together as believers, encourage each other, and to feed off of each others experiences and stories as we give of our money and our selves. Give On!
