My husband and I are both “vision impaired.” We need glasses/contacts. However, neither of us have vision insurance so we take time to shop around to get the best deal we can. Although we like our optometrist we don’t purchase our glasses and contacts through him, it’s just too expensive. We purchase them online. We’ve only ever purchased them through two different places over the last couple years – Walmart and 1800contacts.com. We had good experiences with both and they have actually merged their services.
So here’s my experience: I got my annual vision exam and my new contacts prescription last week (I didn’t need new glasses). I headed over to 1800contacts.com and noticed the banner across the top that says “Unbeatable prices on contact lenses” and I clicked on it. It tells you that they will match any competitor’s price and give a button you can click to have a representative call to verify.
I do a quick Google search of my contact brand and it yields some quick results and great prices. 1800contacts.com was selling my particular brand for $32.49/box. I found another site selling them for $19.49. I click the button to have a representative contact me and my phone immediately rings. I’m connected with a friendly person who looks up the website that I give her and then completes my order for me right over the phone. I save $59.03.
THEN, she tells me they can verify my prescription three different ways – call the Dr., I can fax, I can email. I chose to email the prescription because I have a scanner and the prescription sitting right on my desk. I email the prescription and receive a confirmation that they’ve been mailed.
That was on Friday. They were in my mailbox on Monday.
Qualities that gain customer loyalty from me include: Friendly Service, Good Quality, Reasonable Prices, Speedy Service. They had all of these. I had a great experience and saved a bunch of money.
Are you without medical insurance? What do you do to cut your health care costs?
Why I do what I do ~
Chloe: “Mama, what’s this?” Pointing to the indentation in my collar bone on the front of my neck.
Me: “That’s my neck.”
Chloe: “Your neck is soooo friendly.”
Me: Smiling, I nod.
Chloe: Pointing to her neck, “That’s my neck. We have 2 necks sooooo friendly!”

Wow! What great savings. I do have medical insurance but not vision insurance, so I have also been ordering my contacts from 1800contacts.com.
However, I didn’t know that they would match any competitor’s price. Next time I have to order I’ll check some other sites too.
Thank you so much for this very valuable information.
