Doing My Nails

In my previous life, my un-frugal spend all I can life, I used to get my nails done every two weeks. I loved it. It was relaxing and made me feel pretty knowing one part of me was always almost-perfect looking.

I’m revealing a little bit of vanity here. I hope you’ll all still be my friends. ;-)

Years ago I stopped getting my nails done and resigned myself to having stubs. I’m not a nail biter but I’ve struggled with having the patience to care for them so I just keep them all short. Until now. A little while ago I grew tired of having ugly hands, it’s bad enough that they’re boney and wrinkly, I don’t have to add stubby fingernails to the look. I like to look feminine.

The option of going to the salon didn’t cross my mind as a solution (which I love) but I instantly thought, what can I do about it? For starters, I grew them out, being careful to file them nicely and not open soda cans with them. Next, I gave myself a French manicure. I haven’t done one in a very long time, so I was a little rusty, but they still came out very nice. If you don’t look too close you might even be tricked into thinking I spent a crisp $20 to have them done. Nope. I spent $2. I bought a white polish and the sheer pink for $1 each. I already had the clear polish. I imagine I’ll get quite a few manicures out of that $2.

Now I’m double happy. #1) My nails look nice again. #2) I chose a frugal method for my indulgence, so there is no guilt attached.

Why I do what I do ~ Chloe doesn’t quite get the whole French manicure thing. She wanted to know what was wrong with my fingernails and why I had white on them.

I think your nails look lovely! Well done!

I too used to have mine done before I found other priorities for my money. It was soooo nice!! I doubt I’d be able to make my nails look like they just came from a salon, but you’ve inspired me to try. I can at least calm my cuticles for a start.
