We'd already had some home improvement projects planned and had priced them out, so it worked out well. We essentially "made" 10% on the deal. I agree that it works best if you're a careful spender, or already have set purchases in mind. It would be really easy to "blow" the money on stuff you don't need if you didn't have a plan in place.
