Spend Too Much On Not Enough

in Saving Money

What I’m talking about here is haphazard spending; the kind that is unplanned and sporadic. We all need to spend money and have each spent it well and spent it poorly, so most of us can attest that a planned $100 will go A LOT further than an unplanned $100. If you’ve ever had to ask yourself the question, “Where did all that money go?” Then you know exactly what I’m talking about. In case you’ve never spent unwisely (you should start a blog), why don’t you try a few of these and let me know how it goes:
  1. Don’t menu plan. Just go to the store and wing it.
  2. Decide what you’ll have for supper at 3:00 p.m. each day then go and buy what you need for it.
  3. Go to the grocery store to “pick up a few things” a few times a week.
  4. Grocery shop between 3-5 p.m. on weekdays.
  5. Wander around Walmart to kill time between appointments.
  6. Go shopping without lists.
  7. Don’t price compare.
  8. Pay with your credit card then carry the balance for a while.
  9. Better yet, finance at 20% interest for the longest period possible.
  10. Toss things into your shopping basket without keeping a running total.
  11. Be absolutely sure you’re as rushed as possible when entering any store.
  12. Absorb some negative equity into that brand new loan.
  13. Go shopping while feeling emotionally unstable.
  14. Take a hungry child to the grocery store without a snack to munch on.
  15. Be sure that child has missed her nap.
  16. Don’t plan lunches for work. Just go with what you feel like.
  17. Ignore sale flyers and throw out coupons. They’re useless.
  18. Sign up for store credit and be sure to buy more than you planned to max out that 15% off.
  19. Consistently run out of essential items in your home to ensure that you will never purchase them while they’re on sale.
  20. The next time your kids ask for a dog, just go buy one. They can’t cost that much to own, right?
  21. Go out to eat and don’t keep track of how many un-refillable drinks you’re having. While you’re at it, be sure to grab an appetizer and dessert.

Have you ever spent too much money and come home with not enough things? How did it happen to you?

Why I do what I do ~ I’m in love with the scent of baby sunscreen; on the girls of course, not on me, it just doesn’t smell the same. I’m quite certain that when I’m 80 I will have the youngest looking hands of anyone my age as a direct result of how much 30 SPF sunscreen they come in contact with. I think I spend more time lathering them up than we actually spend out in the sun.

I LOVE it when someone clearly outlines the obvious things we try to let ’slide’ thinking it’s without consequence!
